The Vermouth Rouge Léonce, created by Sabine and François Lurton, is the 2nd born of the range and completes the heritage of the distiller Léonce Récapet, François’ grandfather. For more than 20 years, François has been revealing the richness of the Languedoc-Roussillon terroirs in his properties of Mas Janeil, Château des Erles and Domaine du Ministre. He chose a PDO of Vin Doux Naturel, Maury, as the heart of Léonce Rouge. It is a vermouth conceived as a wine, with a blend of several vintages of Maury that expresses the complexity and richness of this unique terroir in Roussillon and sublimates the balance of aromas. Naturally sweet, Maury is then enriched with alcoholates. These are natural extracts of citrus fruits (grapefruit, oranges, yellow lemon), Mediterranean herbs (hyssop, blessed coal, germander…), spices (juniper, star anise, tonka bean, bird’s eye pepper…) and aromatic plants (vervain, angelica, centaury, elecampane, wormwood…) obtained from maceration or distillation. Léonce has a unique character while remaining in the tradition of French vermouths.
EYE: A beautiful purple color.
NOSE: A nose of ripe fruits typical of Maury, sublimated by a spicy touch (star anise), an explosion of citrus fruits and then come the vegetal notes (sage / hyssop).
PALATE: A full and round mouth where the peppery and spicy notes are balanced with the natural tannins of Maury. A complex and persistent finish on chilli and bitter orange.
TASTING TIP: Enjoy chilled, neat, on the rocks or with a premium tonic. Léonce will be able to sublimate your essential cocktails such as the Negroni (3cl Léonce Rouge / 3cl Gin Sorgin/ 3cl Bitter) or the Americano (3cl Léonce Rouge / 3cl Bitter/ a dash of sparkling water).
