Where does Citadelle gin come from?
The Citadelle gin comes from the south of France and more precisely from Grasse. the distillery creates the renaissance of aged gin. In 2008, Alexandre Gabriel caused a sensation by offering an aged gin for tasting by a select few. No one had seen a single bottle for a century.
How is this gin made?
And yet, before the advent of concrete and stainless steel, gin travelled only in casks. Citadelle “Réserve” heralds the renaissance of golden gins! After several years of experimentation, he discovered the ideal formula with 5 months’ ageing in acacia, mulberry, cherry, chestnut and French oak barrels. At the end of this ageing process, the blend is perfected in an egg-shaped oak barrel 2.45 metres high! The perfect shape of this blending vat creates natural convection, allowing the gin from the different types of wood to blend harmoniously and delicately. An avant-garde technique in line with the spirit of Maison Ferrand, since Citadelle is the only spirit to date to use this aging process in France.
That’s why it’s so popular!
This special ageing and bottling at 45.2% alcohol tend to intensify the juniper and citrus notes of Gin Citadelle Réserve, as well as enhancing its finesse and smoothness on the palate. Citadelle Réserve has become a classic, winning awards the world over (San Francisco Spirits Competition, World Spirits Award, Gin Masters, etc.).
